Mike Mers

Mike Mers founded Aspen Capital Management in 2002. Since its founding, the firm has become one of Idaho’s largest and fastest-growing independent wealth management firms. Mike has always had a passion for portfolio management and enjoys following the latest research on how to improve after-tax returns through portfolio design. In addition, Mike enjoys tracking the historical impact of fees and portfolio complexity on performance (it’s not good!). On a day-to-day basis, Mike finds tremendous reward working with our team as fiduciaries on behalf of our clients to design tax efficient portfolios and solve complex financial planning problems.
Prior to founding Aspen Capital Management, Mike was a Partner with the venture capital firms Highway 12 Ventures and BRM Capital. Mike’s career in venture capital began in Portland, OR at Intel Capital, where he was a Senior Manager of Strategic Equity Investments.
Before moving into the investment world, Mike spent 8 years at Hewlett-Packard in both the LaserJet and DeskJet printer businesses in Boise, ID and Vancouver, WA.
As an International Rotary Scholar, Mike received his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Bristol University in England. He received his undergraduate business degree from Boise State University.
Mike is a current board member of the Boise State University Foundation and serves as Chairman of the Board’s Investment Committee. Mike is the past Chairman of the Boise State University College of Business and Economics Advisor Board and a past board member of the Boise State University Bronco Athletic Association. In addition, he is a member of the Women's and Children's Alliance Endowment Investment Committee, and a member of the Bishop Kelly High School President's Advisory Council.
Mike and his wife, Lori, live in Boise and have two children. Their daughter is currently a freshman at Boise State and their son will graduate from WestPoint in May 2023. The Mers enjoy college football - especially the Boise State Broncos. When they're not in Bronco stadium cheering on the Broncos, they enjoy spending time in the mountains of Idaho on the lake and ski slopes.
